Decorative Candles Guide

Welcome to the world of handcrafted decorative candles!

As this is a relatively new and enchanting field, we at Happy Candles feel it is our duty to bring light not only into your homes but also into how these creations function. Structurally, decorative candles fall into two main categories:

  • Sculptural Candles: Irregular shapes (statues, flowers, animals).

  • Pillar Candles: Regular geometric shapes (cylindrical, rectangular), often featuring engraved designs.

The Art of Burning: Differences & Recommendations

Flame Mechanics: Wax is the fuel absorbed through the wick. A lasting flame depends on a constant supply of melted wax.

Sculptural Candles: Due to their irregular shapes, melted wax tends to flow outward, preventing a stable wax pool from forming. Consequently, their burn time is shorter than that of pillars.

  • Pro Tip: Place sculptural candles in heat-resistant containers (bowls or glasses). The wax will collect inside, essentially transforming it into a container candle and extending its life.

  • Purity: At Happy Candles, we prioritize your health. We do not use chemical compounds to prolong burning - only natural vegetal wax or beeswax.

Pillar Candles: Their design naturally allows for a wax pool to form, offering a longer burn time.

  • The "Tunnel" Concept: The outer walls serve as a support for the melted wax pool.

  • Happy Candles Testing: Each model is tested in 4-hour sessions.

  • The Golden Rule: When the wax pool reaches within 5–10 mm of the candle's edge, extinguish it and let it cool for 2–3 hours. If the wall breaks and wax leaks, the burn time will decrease drastically.

  • Repairing: If leaks occur, extinguish the candle, let it cool, and seal the hole using some of the leaked wax. In the end, you will be left with a charming decorative keepsake. 😊

Wick Care

  • Black Smoke: Signals that the wick is too long and needs trimming.

  • Mushrooming: If the tip of the wick takes on a mushroom or flower shape, burning will be hindered. Trim the affected part before relighting.

  • Carbonization: A charred tip can fall into the wax, slowing down the burn. We recommend regular trimming to remove carbon buildup and ensure a clean flame.
