Beeswax Candle Care Guide

Preparation

The First Light

  • Unpack with Care: Remove all tags, ribbons, labels, and packaging materials before lighting your candle.
  • Wick Preparation: Always trim the wick to a height of 5–10 mm. Maintaining this length prevents uneven burning, excessive dripping, or dangerously high flames.
  • Surface Protection: Unlike container candles, sculptural pieces do not have walls to hold the melted wax. To prevent damage to your furniture, always place them on a heat-resistant tray or plate to safely collect any drippings.

During Use

The Radiant Glow

  • Wick Maintenance: Regularly inspect your candle for "mushrooming" (carbon buildup on the wick). Trim the wick to 5 mm before each use to ensure a clean, controlled burn.
  • Prevent Tunneling: During each session, allow the wax to melt until it reaches approximately 0.5 cm from the edge (typically 2–4 hours, depending on the candle's width). This prevents "tunneling" and protects the integrity of the candle walls from cracking or leaking.
  • Preserve the Form: To maintain the intricate shape of your decorative beeswax candles, limit burn sessions to 1–2 hours for sculptural designs and 3–4 hours for pillar styles. Overheating may cause the wax to overflow or the silhouette to distort.
  • Scent Integrity: Do not add essential oils directly into the molten wax pool, as this can impair performance and safety. For additional fragrance, we recommend using a dedicated oil diffuser.
  • The Final Burn: For safety, discontinue use when only 0.5 cm of wax remains at the base.
  • Safe Spacing: When lighting multiple candles, place them at least 7–10 cm apart. This prevents the heat from one candle from melting the walls of another.

Aftercare

The Final Ember

  • Safe Extinguishing: Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame whenever possible. This is the safest method to prevent hot wax from splattering and to minimize smoke.
  • Water Hazard: Never use water to extinguish a candle. The reaction can cause hot wax to splatter violently or cause the wax pool to flare up.
  • Final Inspection: Before leaving the room, ensure the candle is completely extinguished. Confirm that the flame is out and there is no remaining glow or ember on the wick.
  • Handle with Care: Do not touch or move the candle while the wax is molten. Wait until the wax has fully solidified and the vessel or surface has completely cooled.

Pro-Tips

Beeswax Insights

The Beauty of the "Bloom"

Our candles are crafted from 100% pure beeswax, a living material that changes over time. You may notice a soft, whitish film - known as bloom - appearing on the surface. This is not a flaw; it is a natural sign of purity caused by minerals rising to the surface.

  • The Fix: If you prefer a polished look, simply wipe the candle gently with a soft, lint-free cloth. This will not affect the candle’s clean-burning performance.
Mastering the Perfect Burn
  • Flicker Control: If the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly, extinguish it immediately.
  • Maintenance: Before relighting, allow the wax to cool completely. Trim the wick to roughly 5 mm and ensure the candle is placed away from drafts.
  • Stability: Never move or touch a burning candle while the wax is liquefied to prevent spills or wick displacement.
Essential Safety Rituals
  • Active Supervision: Never leave a lit candle unattended or burning while you sleep. Always extinguish your candles before leaving the room.
  • Clear Surroundings: Maintain a "safety zone" around your candle. Keep it away from anything flammable, including drapes, books, furniture, and decorations.
  • Protected Spaces: Ensure candles are placed on stable, heat-resistant surfaces and kept strictly out of reach of children and pets.
